The Gurkha Welfare Trust, Nepal (GWT (N)) invites application from suitably qualified applicants for the post of Rehabilitation Therapists in providing and developing rehabilitation services delivered from our Area Welfare Centres (AWCs) in Dharan and Pokhara, and their surrounding regions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be qualified as a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with Bachelor’s degree.
- Must be registered with Nepal Medical Health Professional Council.
- Must have good command of both spoken and written English.
- Must be computer competent.
- Must be Nepali citizen.
Required Background & Experiences:
- Minimum of three years of work experience with Govt/Private hospitals/Health Posts/Centres.
- Experience in working in remote areas with Government/international organizations preferable.
- Experience of community outreach work highly desirable.
- Experience in coaching, teaching, mentoring and management of other clinical staff highly desirable.
- Experience in rehabilitation of elderly patients and neurological conditions highly desirable.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Your role will be to deliver and develop rehabilitation services to the pensioners living in the region around the two centres. This will include residential and temporary rehab/respite patients in the two residential homes. The bulk of the work shall be working with other GWT medical staff, doctors, health assistants, nurses and pharmacists to deliver rehabilitation services to patients, and their families, in their homes.This will require the rehab therapist to travel to the rural AWCs around Dharan and Pokhara and to visit pensioners in their homes frequently, and so the successful candidate must be prepared to travel and work in such rural areas, often with significant walking involved.This means that the selected therapist shall be required to stay away from home frequently (may be 75%) during the working week, returning at weekends wherever possible.The clinical challenges will be mainly concerning rehabilitation of the older population of retired ex- servicemen and their families whose rehab needs will mostly be as a result of fractures, strokes, joint problems, general ageing process. Already we have existing clients of varying ages for whom such conditions has led to disability and with whom you would be doing on-going rehabilitation. Assessments of functional ability and hence what mobility or other aids and equipment would facilitate improved independence and quality of life, teaching patients and carers appropriate manual handling, transfer techniques, exercises and activities to promote improved functional ability, pulmonary rehabilitation, are all examples of the requirements. GWT will be working in partnership with a well-established rehabilitation provider in Nepal to support the development of these services. They will offer some initial training and on-going mentorship and support during the first year of employment.
The post is levelling EG03 and the salary will be NPR 58,572 (FY 2019/20 rate) with Provident Fund, Gratuity, One month pay as Festival Bonus, Medical Cover and leave/holidays as per GWT(N) Regulations. The job is offered for 3 years initially and maybe extended further based on need and performance.
